ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana organized online session on ‘On-farm Boundary Plantation for Agro-ecological Conditions of Punjab’

Ludhiana: A nation-wide campaign on plantation and awareness with the theme ‘Har Med Par Ped’ is being condcuted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research as a part of Celebration of India@75- Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav to boost the promotion of tree-based farming. In this context, ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana organized a lecture on ‘On-farm Boundary Plantation for Agro-ecological Conditions of Punjab’ especially for farmers of Punjab. Dr. Rishi Indra Singh Gill, Pr. Scientist (Agroforestry), PAU Ludhiana delivered lecture to about 150 participants (students from Rajsthan, Chaattisgarh, Maharshtra, J&K; farmers from different parts of Punjab; scientists and staffs of ICAR-CIPHET) on 26.06.2021 (12:30-1:30 pm). Dr. Gill detailed on the selection of tree species, discussed various agroforestry models, plants management, and productivity optimization. The speaker also shared about the right sources of planting material, tree planting geometry, timely irrigation, fertilization and pruning, management of nutrient deficiency, control of insect pest and diseases, etc.
The program was organized under the guidance of Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana and coordinated by Dr. D. N. Yadav, Pr. Scientist and Head, TOT Division, Mr. Vikas Kumar, Scientist. Dr. Kotwaliwale highlighted the importance of tree, sensitized the participants for tree plantation and encouraged them to go for plantation with scientific knowledge and apply the learning gained from scientific talk.
