ICAR-CIPHET to organize Industry Interface Fair on Agro-Processing (IIFA) and Kisan Mela on Oct 3

Ludhiana, September 30, 2022: ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology (CIPHET) will organize ICAR-CIPHET Industry Interface Fair on Agro-Processing (IIFA) and Kisan Mela on October 3 at its premises to showcase new technologies to various stakeholders including industry, entrepreneurs, farmers and students for wider outreach. 

On the same day, the Institute will celebrate its 34th Foundation Day. This institute is one of the premium institute of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) which undertakes R & D activities for higher profitability of agricultural production systems. The institute works for enhancing farmers’ income and increased employment opportunities in rural sector through efficient post-harvest processing and value addition of agricultural produce and by-products, resulting in high quality and safe food and feed.  Since its establishment, the institute has developed more than 135 technologies out of which 70 technologies have been licensed and commercialized benefitting the stakeholders. 

Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana briefed about activities going to be held at IIFA and Kisan Mela 2022. During the fair, live demonstration of different technologies including machines, plastics structures, etc. will be provided to visitors on more than 40 stalls, along with display and sale of different value added products like vegan dairy analogues, gluten free bakery products, extruded snacks and some innovative products based on millets, etc. Kisan Goshthi will also be held during the event where farmers and other stakeholders will be briefed about various post-harvest technologies. 

Thereafter, Dr. S. K. Tyagi, Project Coordinator, AICRP on PHET, informed about different technologies being developed under the All India Coordinated Project including the ongoing research for management of crop residue which is a major issue for farmers in Punjab. 

Dr. R. K. Singh, Project Coordinator, AICRP on PEASEM, updated the invitees about the potential of protected cultivation and use of plastics in different agricultural unit operations. Crop under the protected cultivation produces 3-4 times higher yield than that of normal practice of open cultivation. The fair will be open to the visitors from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm and more information about the event is available on the institute website.
