Ludhiana, January 17, 2024: The ICAR Zonal Sports Tournament (North Zone) 2023 commenced with great fervor and excitement at the Sports Complex, PAU Ludhiana on January 17, 2024. Organized by ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, the event is scheduled to run from January 17 to 20, 2024, with participation from 24 institutes and a total of 807 enthusiastic participants representing seven states.

The inauguration was graced by the presence of Sh. Pravesh Chander Sharma, a distinguished sportsman and Gold medallist of the Commonwealth Games, who served as the Chief Guest. Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, and Dr. H. S. Jat, Director, ICAR-IIMR Ludhiana, were the esteemed Guest of Honours. The ceremony commenced with the Chief Guest, along with the North Zone's best athletes, lighting the Torch, followed by all participants taking an oath to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship and adhere to the rules and regulations for the honor and glory of sports.

Dr. R K Vishwakarma, Chairman of the organizing committee, extended a warm welcome to all the Guests and participants. In his inaugural address, Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, encouraged the players to give their best in their respective events. Chief Guest Sh. Pravesh Chander Sharma emphasized the significance of discipline in sports and urged participants to inspire the younger generation to embrace sports in their lives. Dr. P Sheoran highlighted the unity among ICAR institutes despite their diversity, while Dr. H S Jat emphasized that the spirit of participation itself holds paramount importance, overshadowing the outcome of winning or losing.

The event encompasses a diverse array of sports activities, including athletics, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis, football, cycling, cricket, chess, and carom. It serves as a spirited gathering of athletes, officials, and spectators, marking the beginning of a four-day celebration of sportsmanship and talent. The tournament not only promotes healthy competition but also underscores the unity prevailing among ICAR institutes, exemplifying the spirit of diversity within the organization.
