IDPD condemns police brutality on Dr Sudhakar Rao
Dr Sudhakar had raised issue of non-supply of PPEs in state for those dealing with Covid-19
Ludhiana: Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has condemned in strong words police brutality on the Dr Sudhakar Rao in Andhra Pradesh. Dr Sudhakar had raised the issue of non supply of PPEs in the state for those dealing with COVID-19. Because of this he was suspended. Now when he was staging a protest outside the hospital the police arrested him. Not only that they dragged him on the road in the most brutal manner. Dr Sudhakar is a senior trained person to deal with the COVID-19 patients. In this hour of a serious health emergency treating such a trained resource in this manner is a grave matter. Since his suspension over a month ago he might have developed anxiety and depression. Now to label him as a mentally sick person is highly condemnable. In the statement released Dr S S Soodan – President IDPD, Dr Arun Mitra – Sr. Vice President IDPD and Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman – General Secretary IDPD said that a person in such a situation needs even more empathy and sympathy. The governments must understand that COVID-19 is a health emergency not a law and order problem. Some law and order issues have cropped up because of ill planning on the part of the government which has led to problems for the people. India cannot be allowed to become a police state. Exemplary punishment should be given to the police personnel who treated Dr Sudhakar with such a brutality. There is need to change the mindset of the persons in power more so during such periods.
