IDPD warns against BJP government’s move to introduce astrology in medical care

Ludhiana, July 18, 2017: Reacting to the news that the RSS patronised BJP government in Madhya Pradesh is planning to start astrology OPD (out-patient department) in which astrologers and such soothsayers will provide consultation to visitors facing diverse problems including the patients seeking astrological diagnosis of their problems (medical, psychological and social), the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has said that astrology is only a belief system with no scientific basis.

In statement released here today Dr L S Chawla Patron, Dr S S Soodan President, Dr Arun Mitra – Sr. Vice President and Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman – General Secretary IDPD said that the treatment of a disease involves the study of its causation, symptamotology and investigations to reach the conclusion before starting its management. Seeking medical advice based on astrology and planetary configurations could be misleading and dangerous. We advise the patients to seek proper scientific advice for their medical problems. It is unfortunate that the government is propagating such systems which do not hold any scientific evidence and wants to push the society to extreme obscurantism and medieval period. Proof of which is that recently a minister of Gujarat had attended the conference of exorcists.
