IIT Mandi Director's statement on heart attack unscientific and misleading - IDPD
Ludhiana, August 12, 2024: The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has taken a strong exception to the statement by the director of IIT Mandi Laxmidhar Behera that the heart stops beating only when the soul, which lives in the heart, leaves it. While addressing the students of the institute he said that there is nothing like a heart attack according to him and that doctors' talking about heart attack is shear nonsense. In this statement released today IDPD has said that his talk is totally unscientific and misleading. It negates the basic concept of modern scientific pathophysiology. Modern medicine has evolved through intensive research based on evidence. The statements like soul leaving the heart are only mythical without any evidence or scientific base. Dr Arun Mitra President IDPD demanded that he should withdraw his statement or quit as director. We also demand from the higher bodies in science to take appropriate note of this. Such a statement from a director of IIT is totally un acceptable and is a subtle effort to push the society into the medieval times.
Those who issued the statement include Dr Arun Mitra President IDPD, Dr Shakeel ur Rahman General Secretary, Dr Indervir Gill member central council IDPD, Dr Shakti Kumar Prabhakar a Neuro Psychiatrist.
