IJU condemned highhanded act of Haryana police
Demanded Haryana Police to immediately withdraw charges against Rajesh Kundu
Hyderabad/Chandigarh: Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has condemned the high handed act of the Haryana police who booked a journalist under charges of ‘cyber terrorism’ for merely exercising his right to free speech.
The Hisar police on Friday registered a case against Rajesh Kundu who runs a news portal ‘The Ink’. He also works for a TV channel from Hisar. Rajesh was booked over a Facebook post, which was also shared on WhatsApp.
IJU President K. Sreenivas Reddy and Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu in a statement on Sunday demanded the Haryana Police to immediately withdraw the charges against Kundu.
The social media post in question does not incite anybody to violence and as Kundu claimed he performed his duty as a responsible citizen and journalist by posting that, the IJU leaders said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kundu has extensively covered the ongoing farmer agitation. Flagging that fact the IJU leaders said, “it seems this coverage of farmers agitation by Kundu earned him the ire of Haryana police”.
