IKG PTU organized Special lecture session on subject "Indian Knowledge System"

Jalandhar/Kapurthala, April 16, 2024: A special session on the subject Indian Knowledge System ( Bhartiya Gyan Parampara) was organized at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU). In this session, Dr. Ruchir Gupta, Associate Professor of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) BHU Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) participated as the keynote speaker.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr) Susheel Mittal was the chief guest in this session. This event was organized by the recently established IKS cell in the university. IKS Cell has been established at university in the R&D (Research and Development) department. University Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra and Dean R&D Dr Hitesh Sharma presided over the event.

In his address, keynote speaker Dr. Ruchir Gupta said that the Department of Indian Knowledge Traditions or Indian Knowledge System (IKS) was established in October 2020 by MHRD at AICTE headquarter. Its objective is to promote research on all aspects of “Indian Knowledge Systems” and to preserve and disseminate “Indian Knowledge Systems” for social applications. Quoting historical facts, he clarified that Indian science and research used to be famous globally, but during the British period, Indian efficiency was pushed back in a planned manner. Therefore, it is necessary to develop science and research in Indian style again, so that the coming generations can be proud of their rich culture (rich tradition). He also shared information about short term courses and faculty development programme agenda prepared under IKS.

Dr. Ruchir Gupta said that the work of IKS is also to create a database of those individuals and organizations who have enriched ancient and contemporary fields ranging from art, music, dance, drama to mathematics, astronomy, science, technology, biology. Has contributed through research, teaching, publications preservation of Indian knowledge systems.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal expressed his views on the seriousness and importance of the subject. Registrar Dr. S.K Misra shared his views regarding imporamce of IKS in context of Punjab state. The welcome address at the ceremony was given by Dean R&D Dr. Hitesh Sharma, while the vote of thanks was given by Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla.

On this occasion, NSS Coordinator Dr. Chander Prakash, Vinay Kehar, faculty members and students of various departments were present.
