IKG PTU witnessed a blend of professionals and students in its mega event "Media Utsav 2025"

Jalandhar/Kapurthala, April 4, 2025: I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) organized a mega event "Media Utsav 2025" on March 28, 2025 at the main campus Kapurthala Road. Total 20 colleges and universities of the state participated in this event organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the university. Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal, Vice Chancellor IKG PTU was the chief guest of the program. In his address, he said that programs like Media Utsav 2025 give the youth an opportunity to explore their potential and hone their talent. He noted media studies as a study that keeps them ahead in general knowledge and is more active in terms of other studies. Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Mittal congratulated the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for organising the event. Registrar Dr S K Misra shared his best wishes through a message.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp, a symbol of knowledge. Dean Academics Prof (Dr) Vikas Chawla, Dean Student Welfare Prof (Dr) Satvir Singh attended the event as special guests. Associate Prof (Dr) Sarabjit Singh Mann of Central University Bathinda , Prof (Dr) Rajeev Chauhan, HoD Civil Engineering Department also attended the event as special invitees.
Media Utsav 2025 had a total of six competitions, including radio jockey, photography, report writing, personality reflection, caption writing and quiz. Participants from 20 colleges and universities across Punjab showcased their skills in these competitions. Prof (Dr) Ranbir Singh, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University said that in today's digital landscape, media professionals should not just be storytellers, they should be critical thinkers and ethical communicators. Encouraging students to actively participate in such competitions, he said, “Such competitions prepare students for the challenges of the real world”
The jury for judging the competitions included Radio Jockey and TV celebrity Roger, Navjot Kaur from F-9 Digital Media Solutions, Kamaljit Singh from Third I Pictures, Deputy Registrar (Public Relations) of IKGPTU Rajnish Sharma and Associate Professor of Central University Bathinda Dr. Sarabjit Singh Mann. The stage was managed by Amarveer, Babanpreet and Jasmine, students of BA (JMC) 4th semester. The quiz competition was organized by Karamveer (Research Scholar), Deepak (BAJMC Student) and Manveer (BAJMC Student). The students of Journalism Department, Samhita, Rahul, Tamanna, Arshdeep, Navina, Neha and Awasthi also performed cultural performances in the program. The responsibility of coordination in the program was taken by the faculty of the department, Dr. Sanjeev Sharma. Mangala Sahni, Hari K Singh, Dr. Waqar Ahmad Wani, Ranjana Arora, Rajni Hans and Raman (Research Scholar). Dr. Ekta Mahajan, Assistant Professor of the Department, presented the vote of thanks.
Media Fest Results: The overall trophy of Media Utsav 2025 went to Lovely Professional University (LPU). In the Radio Jockey category, Devo Ganguly of LPU got the first position, Rubjot Kaur of Chitkara University got the second position, Sharanya Sharma of Kanya Mahavidyalaya got the third position. In report writing, Davinder Singh of GNDU Ladhewali got the first prize, Sakshi Badola of HMV Jalandhar got the second position and Simranjit Kaur of LPU got the third position. Bhumi Sharma of Chitkara University, Disha Jaiswal of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar and Manpreet Singh of DAV College, Jalandhar were given consolation prizes. In the caption writing competition, Naaz of Hindu Kanya College came first, Sunny of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar came second and Geetesh of Doaba College came third. In the photography competition, Gurinder Singh of DAV College came first, Aneesh Verma of St. Soldier Institute of Business Management and Agriculture came second and Arun Kumar of GNDU Regional Campus Laddevali came third. Udaybir Singh of Khalsa College Amritsar and Jasmeet Singh of CT Group of Institutions were given consolation prizes. There was a tough competition in the quiz competition, in which Baltej Singh and Pooja Kumari of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar emerged as the winners! Geetesh and Karan Verma of Doaba College came second, while Sagun and Tisha Jadav of LPU came third.
