IKGPTU initiated Two-days National Seminar on

Jalandhar/Kapurthala, April 22, 2024: Two-days National seminar on "Indian Knowledge System through Libraries - Manuscripts to AI" was inaugurated at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) main campus on Tuesday. This seminar is being sponsored by Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) under the ministry of culture, Govt. of India. Director General of National Library of India and RRRRLF Prof. (Dr) Ajay Pratap Singh attended the inaugural session as Chief Guest. Vice Chancellor IKGPTU, Prof (Dr) Susheel Mittal was the special guest in the inaugural session. Professor Emeritus Prof M.P. Satija of Guru Nanak Dev University and Prof Dr Manoj Kumar Verma of Library and Information Science Department of Mizoram University have participated in this seminar as subject experts. All dignitaries inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp.


In the welcome address of the opening session, Registrar IKGPTU, Dr S K Misra discussed the strong history of "Bhartiya Gyan Parampara". He talked about the opportunities to reconnect with the Indian knowledge tradition through National Education Policy 20-20. Dr Misra welcomed the Chief Guest Prof (Dr) Ajay Pratap Singh, Special Guest Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Mittal, experts and all the participants.


Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Susheel Mittal emphasized on expressing his views on the Indian Knowledge System. He suggested that again and again organizing events related to it, can be helpful to connect us with the Indian Knowledge System in the AI era. He believes that events on this subject are necessary to revive the rich heritage of which Indians were the owners. He appreciated the topic "Indian Knowledge System through Libraries - Manuscripts to AI" and congratulated the organizing committee. for the national level event.


Chief Guest Director General Prof (Dr) Ajay Pratap Singh, while describing the tradition of knowledge dissemination through libraries as very important, mentioned the special work being done by the Government of India in this direction. He said that the Government of India has kept a special package/budget for opening libraries at the rural level. He also spoke on the importance of libraries in increasing awareness about the Indian Knowledge System. Prof (Dr) Ajay Pratap Singh also shared the experience of his first visit to IKG PTU in the year 2019.


The vote of thanks was read by event Patron Dean R&D Prof (Dr) Y S Brar. The stage was moderated by Organizing Secretary of the event Dr Madhu Midha (Deputy Librarian IKGPTU). Dr Mrigendra Bedi, Assistant Director Incubation Center IKGPTU had supported & given cooperation in the event.
