ILLEGAL MINING OF SAND: 8 booked in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, November 1, 2012:  Despite ban on illegal mining of sand, the Makhu police has registered a case against eight persons,  under section 379 of IPC and Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act 1957.

Giving this information, ASI Balwinder Singh said, General Manager-cum-Mining Officer, Ferozepur in his letter of August 16, 2012 have alleged that despite ban in village Pir Mohammad, Balkar Singh, Gurmit Singh Piara Singh, Sarwan Singh, Bachhittar Singh, Mehal Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Baldev Singh, are virtually doing illegal mining of sand. 

The police after registration of case against eight persons for illegal mining of sand, have started further proceedings.

According to another source, the illegal sand mining is happening at later hours to avoid any interference of the authorities and the modus-operandi is to camouflage the top layer with earth.  Because of ban on illegal mining, the prices of sand have gone high affecting the construction work in the district.  

The General Manager (Industries)-cum-Mining Officer, has, however, assured to take action against the illegal mining of sand.
