Ferozepur, October 10, 2012: The Sadar Police has registered a case against two persons, in the area of village Dastool, under section 379 of IPC and Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act 1957, on the report of General Manager-cum-Mining Officer, Ferozepur.
The accused have been identified as Daulat Ram of village Gamewala and Sarbjeet Singh of village Janer.
While Daulat Ram was arrested on the spot, the other managed to escape from the scene.
It is pertinent to mention that Industry Department had recommended registration of 36 cases against land owners besides issuing notices to 40 delinquent persons loyal to sand mafia. Recently, 18 persons were booked by the Zira police for carrying out illegal sand mining and transporting of minerals despite a ban.
As per the sources, the illegal sand mining is taking place at later hours to avoid any interference of the authorities and the modus-operandi is to camouflage the top layer with earth. Because of ban on illegal mining, the prices of sand have gone high affecting the construction work around the city.
The General Manager (Industries) has, however, assured to take action against the illegal mining of sand.
