ILLEGAL SAND MINING: 4 arrested in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, November 10, 2012: In a bid to curb illegal mining in the Satluj riverbed in Shahkot, the district administration in a surprise raid after forming a team comprising, Additional Deputy Commissioner Preneet Bhardwaj, district industries manager-cum-mining officer Surjit Singh, Block information officer Pawan Kumar and Shahkot police conducted at Chak  Bahmnia village and nabbed four persons and also seized six heavy trucks, four cranes on the spot, few persons managed to escape.

The arrested alleged accused were identified as Chheor Rattan, Hetram, Babber Singh residents of Rajasthan, and Jagtar Singh of Talwandi Sabo ,Punjab.

The trucks seized were laden with illegal excavated sand and two trucks were waiting for their turn to be loaded sand.

Three trucks were bearing registration numbers of Rajasthan whereas one was of Punjab state number.

There must be Punjab mining mafia in touch with the Rajasthan people operating in the illegal mining business”, said Naib Tehsildar Amarjit Singh. He said police is searching of the kingpin of the illegal sand mafia.

According to the Deputy Commissioner Priyank Bharti, a case under section 21 of the Mining Act 1957 and section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered against the accused. He said, raids would be continued in future also to combat the illegal sand mafia in the district.
