ILLEGAL SEX DETERMINATION TEST MACHINE RECOVERED FROM VILLAGE JARTAULI

Ludhiana, December 13, 2018: Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu has informed that acting on a secret information, a joint raid was conducted at village Jartauli (District Ludhiana) by officials from health departments of Ludhiana and from Cheeka (Kaithal) in Haryana. He informed that one Amarjit Singh alias Gurpreet, son of Karnail Singh was carrying illegal sex determination tests from his house and these tests were conducted by his wife Amandeep Kaur.

He informed that one Sukhwinder Kumar, a resident of Patiala, had brought a pregnant lady for illegal sex determination test to the house of Amarjit Singh alias Gurpreet in village Jartauli and Amandeep Kaur had taken an amount of Rs 20,000 from the pregnant lady for carrying out her illegal sex determination test.

The joint health department team from Ludhiana and Haryana caught both Amarjit Singh and Sukhwinder Kumar from the spot and also recovered currency notes of Rs 20,000 from the spot. During the checking of Amarjit Singh’s house, an illegal sex determination test machine (6 4) was also recovered from the house, but Amandeep Kaur managed to escape from the spot. The team handed over the duo to the police and confiscated the cash, a laptop and illegal sex determination test machine (6 4). A case number 271 under section 420 of IPC and under section 5(2) of PCPNDT Act has been registered at Police Station Sadar Ludhiana.

The Civil Surgeon has urged the residents to remain vigilant from such persons and stated that getting sex determination tests is illegal and any person indulging in this test is equally guilty in the eyes of law.

The team that carried out the raid included Dr SP Singh, District Family Welfare Officer, Dr Santosh, SMO Dehlon, Dr Gobind, SMO Malaud from Health Department Ludhiana and Dr Gaurav Poonia, PNDT Nodal Officer, Dr Sanjeev Garg PHC and Mr Narinder Kumar, District Programme Manager Kaithal from Health Department Cheeka (Kaithal) in Haryana.
