ILO assures trade unions of implementation of labour laws in India
AITUC demands from Punjab government to keep 8 hours as working time like Rajasthan government
Ludhiana: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has demanded from the Punjab government to repeal its order of making 12 hours for the workers instead of 8 hours a day. Rajasthan government has repealed it already. The trade unions had complained to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) of blatant violation of international commitments on labour laws in India by the central as well as some state governments. The ILO has assured the trade unions that it will take up the matter with the Indian government to maintain the labour laws as per the international commitments as India is signatory to such treaties. It is pertinent to note that the workers had protested on 22nd May throughout the country against such violations of labour laws by the Indian government. Several state governments ruled by the BJP have completely nullified the labour laws at the behest of the central government. Punjab and Rajasthan had changed only the working hours under the factory act.
