Impact of Karnataka elections and Jalandhar parliamentary seat by-election?
The Election Commission of India has announced the elections to Karnataka State Assembly to be held on 10th May 2023. Congress party has formed its government eight times in 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1978 ,1989, 1999 and 2013; and BJP has formed its Government three times in 2004, 2008 , 2018; Janata Party has formed its government two times in 1983 and 1985; and Janata Dal had formed its government once in 1994 . The poll results this time will certainly reflect on the 2024 Parliament elections. In parliament elections held in Karnataka in 2014, BJP had won 17 seats, Congress 9 seats and Janata Dal (S) 2 seats. BJP had performed much better in 2019 parliament elections in Karnataka and had won 25 seats whereas the other parties won one seat respectively each. Keeping in mind the results of 2019 and the Modi government’s policies and programmes have boosted the sentiments of the cadre and the masses.
JALANDHAR PARLIAMENTARY SEAT BY-ELECTION
Jalandhar parliamentary seat by-election will be witnessing a tough contest this time. Congress leaders are hopeful to getting the sympathy wave. Also, there is a strong hold of Congress in Doaba. AAP is also hopeful of winning this seat despite the fact that the party candidate had to witness defeat in the Sangrur parliament elections. On the other hand, BJP is also hopeful of getting more votes than the votes polled in previous years. SAD (B) in alliance with BSP will be fielding its candidate on this seat. The result of this by-election will certainly reflect on the coming Municipal Corporation and parliament elections. Congress has already announced its candidate.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is back in the political arena. The party insiders say that he may be seen campaigning in Karnataka and Jalandhar (Punjab). Sidhu had to resign as state president of PPCC in March 2022. He is considered an excellent orator and known for changing the mindset of the voters with his fiery speeches. The election to Jalandhar parliamentary constituency is to be held on 10th May 2023.
