Inauguration of Multimedia Research Block and Exhibition cum Valedictory function of ‘DAY-NULM’ Skill Development Program organized at Home Science College, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, April 25, 2022: The Government Home Science College organized the inauguration of a Multimedia Research Block along with the exhibition cum valedictory function of a Skill Development Training programme in Fashion Designing for the urban poor under Deen Dayal Antyaodya Yogna-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).
Satyapal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India, was the chief guest for the event. Devesh Moudgil, Ex-Mayor of Chandigarh and P.U. Senate Member was the guest of honour. Satyapal Jain narrated the vision of Deen Dyal Upadhyaya as he worked relentlessly for the welfare of the poor and deprived masses of India. He also emphasized that the present scheme of DAY-NULM is the extension of the ideas espoused by the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya ji to provide skill-oriented learning to the people living below the poverty line in India.
The principal of the College, Prof. Sudha Katyal, in her address elaborated on the construction of the Multimedia Research Block within the premises of the college. While talking about the construction cost of the building i.e. 1.74 crores, she talked about the financial assistance of 70 lakhs received from the RUSA Infrastructure grant and 64 lakhs from the U.T. Administration, Chandigarh. Equipped with the latest technologies, the building also has a green energy feature as solar panels are installed on the rooftops. The purpose of this Multimedia Research Block is to boost research-based activities among post-graduate and doctorate students.
In a similar vein, the valedictory ceremony of the skill development Training programme in Fashion Designing of the DAY-NULM project under the Skill India Mission was also organized in the college. The project is initiated by the Government of India to reduce the poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households. The college received a grant of Rs 22.5 lakhs from the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. After the completion of the successful training programme organized within the laboratories of the college under the DAY-NULM project, 69 women beneficiaries were given free motorized sewing machines and kits along with the completion certificate. Furthermore, hand-made products by DAY-NULM beneficiaries like tie and die dupattas, block-printed tablemats and runners, traditionally embroidered cushion covers, applique patchwork, and mats were displayed as part of the exhibition during the event.
Jain appreciated the efforts of the institution for the successful completion of the project and encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize these skills for the betterment of their lives. The Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the efforts of the faculty members for reaching out to the urban poor and working tirelessly for their upliftment. She also urged everyone to adopt the vision as well as the mission of Skill India to generate an empowered workforce for the development of the nation.
