Ludhiana, August 9, 2019: Income Tax Department Ludhiana has initiated a programme (Ek Rishta School se Sarhad Tak) under which lakhs Greeting Cards and rakhis were sent to the Indian Army, BSF, ITBP and CRPF units stationed in Punjab and Jammu Kashmir, who serves on the remote borders far away from their families, to protect us and defend the sovereignty of our nation.

The 3.5 lakh Cards and Rakhis have been made by the school children from over 2300 schools all over North West Region including Punjab, Haryana, J&K, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh especially schools from Ludhiana Jalandhar, Patiala, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Khanna, Moga, Faridabad, Shimla etc..

B K Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana flagged off trucks containing these very special Cards and Rakhis from Aayakar Bhawan, Rishi Nagar, Ludhiana today.

A Large number of students, teachers, Income Tax Officers and staff and bar association members were present on this occasion.

On the occasion of Income Tax Day on 24th July 2019 officers and staff of the Income Tax Department along with members of various Bar associations had visited a large number of schools and had planted trees. On this occasion, they had requested the school students to make Cards and Rakhis for the Armed force personnel to show our gratitude towards them. In response to this initiative, more than 2300 schools have sent Cards and Rakhis made by the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Jha said, “We are proud of our brave armed forces who guard the borders of our country and they risk their lives for the safety and sovereignty of our nation. We can sleep peacefully because they stay awake, away from their loved ones doing their duty. We, therefore, salute their bravery and sacrifice and we should always thankful to them for our freedom and safety.”

Jha also added, “We got a tremendous response from the small kids who participated in this initiative for our true heroes. The response shows that the spark of nationalism is strong in the minds of our School children which is really incredible”

Meanwhile, addressing the students, Col K.S Mathur of 103 Infantry Battalion, Sikh Light Infantry who was a special guest along with other Army Officers said, “We are touched by the gesture showed by the children who made thousands of beautiful cards and letters for the armed forces. This will not only help in boosting the morale of the jawans and officers but it will also send a message that their sacrifice is not going waste and our future generation cares and respects them. We are thankful to the students, teachers and the team of the income tax department for this unprecedented initiative”.
