INDEPENDENCE DAY – 2013:MESSAGE OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR OF PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH

SHRI SHIVRAJ V. PATIL

        My Dear people of Punjab and Union Territory, Chandigarh at home and abroad.

Accept my heartiest greetings on the completion of 66years of our country’s Independence. This is a day of hollowed remembrance for us. This is a day of dedication for us.

As always on these anniversaries we pay our respectful homage to all those self sacrificing and devoted leaders and patriots who struggled for freedom throughout their lives, we also pay tribute to the brave members of our armed forces who laid down their lives while protecting the integrity and boundaries of our country.

        It is a matter of great pride to recall the laudable contribution of Punjab and its people, who spearheaded our endeavour and displayed courage and commitment to the cause of freedom. Peace and amity within our state and region are pre-requisites for development. Brave and hard working people of Punjab and Chandigarh are known for their gentle humanity and generosity, who are always ready to build peace, harmony and unity as preached and taught by our great Guru’s.

        Throughout history, Punjab has been in the forefront of the national endeavour. Today, we are on the fast track and striving hard to change the face of Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, which are both throbbing with new life and hope. Similarly, the Union Territory of Chandigarh has marched ahead on the path of unprecedented progress of the people, special measures have been taken for upgrading the education, health and social infrastructure in the city, by introducing innovative programmes.       

        We have to make a firm resolve to enrich our national life, in our personal capacities, by performing our duties with sincerity, commitment, devotion and dedication, keeping the interest of our country upper most. This is the only way to create the New India- Vibrant, strong and prosperous.

        Let us, on this occasion, renew our pledge to collectively work hard to protect and preserve the unity and sovereignty of our great country and to contribute our mite, for the accomplishment of our goals in different fields of endeavour.

        I once again wish you all, a very Happy Independence Day.
