Ludhiana, May 16, 2023: Health systems of developed and developing countries are overburdened, and are constantly overwhelmed by Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) .The major risk factor for CVD’s worldwide Hypertension ,  has remained an unmanageable challenge despite a plethora of developments currently available in treatment of hypertension . Focussed strategies to address barriers at various levels of patient care are essential to plan for hypertension control.  

India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI) ,  a public hypertension control program  designed and implemented in 2017 under the supervision of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) , India in collaboration with the Indian Council Of Medical Research(ICMR)  in government health facilities across multiple states of  India to manage and improve hypertension control .  Data published on hypertension control indicators post Implementation of IHCI at some districts of India have been promising and has motivated many state governments and their health departments to be part of the IHCI’s national implementation plan. The 2022 UN Interagency Task Force, and WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care Award' was conferred to India for its India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI).

Private Health Sector who are the major care providers for hypertension, NCD’s in many states across India have been inspired by IHCI and would like to take the initiative further and contribute to hypertension control across the country.
 
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) supported hypertension control initiative for Ludhiana district led by Dr.Bishav Mohan, Professor & Medical Suptd., Dept of Cardiology, Hero-DMC heart institute and Dept of SPM, DMC&H aims to tackle the rising hypertension burden of the district by formulation of an implementable strategic action plan for effective hypertension control that can effectively engage, sensitize the public and encourage health care providers working in diverse health care settings to adopt , robustly implement , sustain globally accepted standard hypertension screening and  management practices .

The meeting was chaired by Dr Anand Krishnan, Professor, Centre for Community Medicine, AIIMS, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Scientist –F, NCD – ICMR,Dr Roopa Shivshankar, Scientist, NCD ,ICMR, Dr Bhairavi Deshmukh,Medical Suptd, ESI model Hospital, Ldh, Dr Indira Rani, Deputy Medical Suptd, ESI Model Hospital, Dr Bishav Mohan, Medical Suptd, Hero DMC Heart Institute, Dr GS Wander, Vice Principal, DMC&H and other experts and professors.
