Indo Data Week 2019 to be held in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, October 29, 2019.....A seven-day technology event to be held in the city in the first week of November from 2nd to 8th at Hotel Hyatt, Gachibowli.

The goal of this seven-day event is to bring together practitioners of Data Science – Research, Application and Development – with sustainability experts in India and abroad, thereby facilitating public-private partnerships to help accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

It will be comprised of Indo Data Week 2019, the India’s first ever International Data Science Technology Conference for SDGs on November 4th and 5th.

It is the first time in India such a conference is being organised shared Ms. Parvathy Krishnan, a Data Scientist, currently a data science consultant with the World Bank Group, CEO of DAV Data Solutions, Jheronimus Academy of Data Science and Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore together with Mr. Pramod and Mr. Sriram from INIAC(Indo Nordic Innovation Acceleration Clusters), Swedish Based Accelerator talking to the media in the city today.

It will be organised by Indo-Nordic Innovation Acceleration Cluster and DAV Data Solutions, in partnership with United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP), Youth Co: Lab initiative. The theme of this event is Data Science for Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

The inaugural address of the event will include a delegation from Youth Co: Lab, Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments, Government of Telangana, Ms. Deepthi Ravula, CEO of We Hub, and Mr. Ronald Buijsse, Academic Director, JADS, Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands.

The conference will feature keynotes delivered by International and Indian Speakers including Mr. Joy Mustafi (among top 10 data scientists in India – Analytics India), Mr. Jan Willem Tulp (Tulp Interactive, Netherlands), Anna Ljungbergh (Angel Investor, Board Member Propel Capital, Sweden), Dr. Shanta Thoutam (Vice President - Corporate Innovation & Business Development, T-Hub Hyderabad), Dr. Lerwen Liu (Senior Advisor, KMUTT Thailand & Adjunct Associate Professor, National University of Singapore), Neha Mehta (Founder, FemTech Partners), Deva P. Seetharam (Co- Founder, DataGlen Technologies), Dr. Ashton Sharabiani (Data Science Manager at Deloitte & Adjunct Professor at University of Illinois, USA), Joeri van Geelan (Founder & CEO, Build Blocks Group, Singapore), Anjali Virmani Paul (Advisor for Techstart-ups from Stockholm, Sweden), and many more.

Interacting with the media in the city today Ms. Parvathy Krishnan, a Data Scientist, currently a data science consultant with the World Bank Group, CEO of DAV Data Solutions, Jheronimus Academy of Data Science and Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore together with Mr. Pramod and Mr. Sriram from INIAC(Indo Nordic Innovation Acceleration Clusters), Swedish Based Accelerator said when the latest data on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were released in July 2019, it became clear that a more ambitious response is needed to unleash the social and economic transformation needed to achieve our 2030 goals. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres with the latest UN report “The Future is Now” highlighted Science for Achieving Sustainable Development and the role of Big Data and Analytics to solve these global challenges.

There is huge supply gap demand for Data Science Professionals. It is more than 50%. India is picking up slowly. Data Science is very hot in India. There is a great potential for Data Science in India. Data Science is a highly paid job now. Amsterdam is going to the next Silicon Valley of the world, she shared.

In India, Data Science is highly focused on IT and Computer Science centric. But, it need not be so. Even Social Science students must get into Data Science, she said.

For this first of its kind of Conference we chose Hyderabad over Bangalore, because, this region needs push informed Ms Parvathy.

We would, through these sustainable conferences, like to make Hyderabad a Sustainable Development Hub added Sriram.

During the conference, Indo Data Week 2019, the India’s first ever International Data Science Technology Conference for SDGs, one Indian start-up, based on how they use data science for accelerating the achievement of SDGs 2030, will be awarded the Startup4SDG Awards 2019. The Jury for this award includes eminent personalities like Rama Devi Lanka (Officer on Special Duty, ITE&C Department, Government of Telangana), and Anna Ljungbergh (Angel investor based in Sweden focusing on impact investing), Parvathy shared.

Indo Data Week 2019 also includes multiple pre-conference certification bootcamps on November 2 and 3 being organised at T-Hub on advanced data science topics of Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Creative Data Visualisation and Model Deployment on IoT devices. T-hub, a venue partner for the event leads India's pioneering innovation ecosystem that powers next- generation products and new business models and is headquartered at Hyderabad.

On November 2 and 3, there will also be a parallel 2-day bootcampexclusively for the start-up ecosystem in India at We Hub, Hyderabad– first-of-its-kind and only State-run incubation platform for Women Entrepreneurs. This bootcamp will include interactive hands-on sessions being offered by Ms. Anjali Virmani Paul (DeepTech Advisor and Investor, Expertise in intrapreneurship, global business strategy and innovation management from Stockholm, Sweden), Mr. Hari Dilip Kumar (Systems Thinker working on Sustainability and Programme Manager -Sustainable Development Programme at the Public Affairs Centre), Dr. Lerwen Liu (Managing Director, NanoGlobe Pte Ltd and Founding Director of STEAM Platform), and Mr. Sourav Roy (International Head of Communications at ProVeg International). The four trainers will advise and interactively train the start-ups on Value Chain positioning, Market Opportunity assessment, Global Position, Business Model Design, Financial Management (basic financial literacy, leveraging government grants and partnerships to lower expenses and remain business/financial of company), media visibility in pitch deck and how to build it. The participating start-ups will also identify their unique selling prepositions, make a winning pitch deck and practice pitching to international investors and customers during this workshop.

Post the International Data Science conference, there is a unique opportunity for University students, especially Masters and PhD Students to participate in a Data Science Internship or Summer School in Europe based on their educational background. For this competition called the Youth4SDG Awards, students are invited to submit their innovative and unique ideas on using Data Science techniques for SDGs 2030. The selected students will work under the mentorship of Business coaches and Data Scientists from reputed organisations like Microsoft, TCS, Wipro, etc. to develop a Minimum Viable Product from November 5-7, 2019. The finale for this competition will be held on November 8, 2019 at T-Hub and winners will be decided by an eminent panel of Jury including Sreedevi Devi reddy (CEO, SRiX), Tapas Saha (Advisory Software Development Engineer, IBM, representing MUST Research) and more inspiring innovators.
