Ludhiana: Institute of Architects Punjab Chapter (IIAPC) chairman Sanjay Goel has written to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, suggesting that industrial areas/focal points of upcoming smart cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar must be covered under smart city mission immediately, as majority of these areas are highly neglected, since decades, from planned development point of view.
Goel added that “we all know that Ludhiana- Manchester of India is known worldwide for its aggressive and excellent industry specially hosiery and cycle parts. Not only Punjabis visit all over globe but businessmen from different parts of world also visit Punjab for their business requirements”.
He said focal point areas can be made smart under smart city mission - Area Based Development (ABD) scheme or PAN city scheme.
Goel said, “We all know that government gets maximum taxes/income from industrial areas of industrial cities, whereas these areas are highly neglected from development point of view”, adding that, Smart City companies in Ludhiana , Jalandhar and Amritsar can start working on smart roads in industrial areas/focal points, the way smart roads are coming up in ABD areas or elsewhere. Smart roads in industrial areas will promote more industry as well as income as presently conditions of our majority roads including services (electrical, sewerage system, rainwater harvesting and landscaping) is bad.
He said more funds are generally spent in residential, commercial and main roads as compared to industrial areas, whereas industrial areas are backbone of our cities and major source of income.
Concluding, Goel said he is representing (Punjab Architects’ community of many hundreds architects registered with Indian Institute of Architects and Council of Architecture, MHRD , New Delhi) in Ludhiana Smart city Ltd as one of its Director as an architect and hope that Punjab Government will issue directions to all three upcoming smart cities, for smart development of industrial areas/focal points.
