Industry Academia meet for translation of prototypes to products held at UIET

Chandigarh, April 27, 2018: An Industry Academia meet discussing different prototypes developed under MHRD Design and Innovation Center (DIC) was held here today at University Institute of of engineering and technology (UIET) Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
Prof.Renu Vig informed the audience about DIC and MoU signed with Esteem Industries, Baddi and Tynor Orthotics, Mohali and linkages with PGIMER Chandigarh. Ms. Radhika Singh (HCS) made the participants aware about the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) initiative of encouraging innovations and startups. Project Investigators showcased various prototypes developed under three sub- themes: Medical Devices and Restorative Technologies, Traffic Sensing and IT, Energy Harvesting.
Some of the innovative products that garnered interest from the industry are Maxillofacial Oral cranial reconstruction, Foot Orthotics, Clear Dental Aligner, Pupilometer, Ambulance Detection using RFID, IoT based Air Pollution Monitor, Water Surface Vehicle, to state a few. It was proposed that medical devices prototypes should be developed in consonance with Apple Research Kit for easy integration. Discussions were held about state of the art traffic management solutions implemented in developed countries like USA, UK and it was felt that these innovations are at par with solutions available globally. It was also discussed that factors affecting supply chain management, duties and taxes, maintenance and marketing cost should be considered while providing cost comparison with proposed solutions vis-a- vis available commercial solutions. Industry experts gave suggestions on how to further improve these prototypes and take them to the next stage of technology for transfer and commercialization.
Some of the developed algorithms should be made open source in the form of API in order to reach out to a large number of potential investors and enterprisers. Industry experts suggested that DIC team should participate in International competitions and showcase their products to foreign universities and innovation labs.
Overall the discussions on various technologies and innovations were very insightful and provided directions for future roadmap for the innovations being done at UIET, PU.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Vikram R Singh (Antier Solutions Pvt Ltd.), Ms. Saumya Puri (consultant at NASSCOM), Mr. Navdeep Singh Gill (XenonStack), Mr. Munish Jauhar (GrayCell technologies), Mr. Swarandeep Singh (Logics), Mr. Pratap K Aggarwal (IDS Infotech Ltd.), Mr.Rohit Sharma (Korecent Solutions), Mr. Sumeet Soni (Zapbuild Technologies Pvt. Ltd), Mr. Amritpal Singh (Zapbuild Technologies), Dr. Prabha Garg (NIPER) and other delegates from industry. Ms. Radhika Singh (HCS), Director of Industries, UT Chandigarh also participated in the deliberations. Senior Professors and Faculty from Panjab University and NITTTR interacted with the industry delegates.
The event was spearheaded by Prof. Renu Vig and Prof. Rupinder Tewari from Panjab University and Director UIET Prof. Savita Gupta also attended the event and motivated the team.
