Innocent Hearts celebrated Lohri and Makar Sankranti with Grandeur
The festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti were celebrated with great enthusiasm at Innocent Hearts, from Pre-Nursery to College. A special prayer assembly was organized on this occasion, where students were enlightened about the significance of these festivals.

Jalandhar, January 11, 2025: The festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti were celebrated with great enthusiasm at Innocent Hearts, from Pre-Nursery to College. A special prayer assembly was organized on this occasion, where students were enlightened about the significance of these festivals. They were informed that these festivals provide an opportunity to keep our cultural heritage alive. Lohri is a festival that revives Punjabi traditions and fosters values of unity, harmony, and purity. It symbolizes the harvest of Rabi crops and the end of winter season. On the other hand, Makar Sankranti is celebrated in various forms across India and marks the sun's entry into the Capricorn zodiac sign, signaling the end of winter and the beginning of longer days.
Children presented folk songs for Lohri and shared their thoughts on Makar Sankranti. Pre-primary children came dressed in traditional Punjabi attire and, along with their mentors, enjoyed dancing to Punjabi folk songs and the beat of the dhol. Students performed Gidda and Bhangra, showcasing the vibrancy of Punjabi heritage. Additionally, students from all classes wrote essays on the significance of Lohri and Makar Sankranti.
Innocent Hearts College of Education celebrated the festival of Lohri to promote traditional Punjabi culture, the spirit of brotherhood, love, and joy. Activities like folk songs ('Tappe') and poster-making competitions were organized to mark the occasion.
In classrooms, class mentors made the students familiar with their Punjabi heritage by explaining the importance of Lohri. They emphasized that this festival is one of love, brotherhood, culture, and joy, inspiring us to maintain unity, goodwill, and mutual harmony in society.
