Jalandhar, October 1, 2024: Innocent Hearts' five schools (Green Model Town, Loharan, Noorpur Road, Cantt.- Jandiala Road, and Kapurthala Road), Innokids, and Innocent Hearts College of Education enthusiastically celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
As part of the CBSE's Swachhta Pakhwada (under SDG 13), students participated in various activities focusing on three dimensions of cleanliness: 'Clean Mind, Healthy Body, and Healthy Environment'. Students from classes 1-5 took the cleanliness pledge and vowed to stay vigilant and dedicate time to cleanliness.
Eco Club students contributed significantly to cleaning the park adjacent to the school in leadership of their mentors. Students spread awareness about segregating waste into different colored dustbins - green (wet) and blue (dry) - and the importance of keeping their environment clean.
The tiny tots were dressed up as Gandhi ji and Shastri ji, offered floral tributes to their portraits, and participated in a mini Dandi March.
Teachers shared stories from Gandhi Ji's and Shastri ji's lives, inspiring students to learn from their experiences. They emphasized the importance of maintaining school cleanliness and surroundings.
Innocent Hearts College of Education's NSS unit celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by promoting Gandhian values - "Clean Body, Unclean City is Uninhabitable" and experiential education (Ventel). A 'Best Out of Waste' competition encouraged students to convert waste into valuable resources and promote alternatives to single-use plastic (SUP).
Students and teachers actively participated in handicrafts like hand-weaving, pottery, decorative paper bag-making, origami, and glasswork.
This celebration instilled a sense of responsibility and awareness among students, fostering a cleaner and healthier environment.
