Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Intellectual Property Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity” recently. Around 200 students and teachers from different educational institutions of Punjab participated in the event.
Kapurthala, April 29, 2024: Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Intellectual Property Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity” recently. Around 200 students and teachers from different educational institutions of Punjab participated in the event.
Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City giving introductory remarks on this occasion emphasized the importance of safeguarding ideas, inventions, and creations in today's fast-paced global economy. He equated Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to a shield that protects these valuable assets from being used without permission. He underscored the crucial role of IPR, which includes patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, in fostering creativity and propelling progress across various sectors. He highlighted the necessity of educating the younger generation about the significance of protecting different forms of Intellectual Property rights. Dr. Grover stressed the importance of establishing an environment conducive to nurturing young innovators, enabling them to develop fresh and original ideas while ensuring their protection. He emphasized that this is essential for future advancements and to encourage efforts towards this goal.
Er. Amardev Singh, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship Development & Industrial Coordination (EDIC) at NITTTR Chandigarh, delivered a keynote address at the seminar. His talk titled "New Product and Process Development: A Practicum oriented to Intellectual Property and the SDGs" focused on how Intellectual Property (IP) can inspire and boost innovative and creative solutions crucial for building our shared future. He stressed the importance of balancing social, economic, and environmental sustainability in development efforts. During his talk, he highlighted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) act as a roadmap for achieving well-being for people, fostering peace, and conserving our planet. World IP Day 2024 offers an opportunity to explore how Intellectual Property promotes and enriches the innovative and creative solutions necessary for our collective future.
