Interaction meeting with representatives of Jindal Stainless Ltd on application of stainless steel in food industries organized at ICAR-CIPHET
The session was attended by students and faculties from different departments of Punjab Agricultural University and staffs of ICAR-CIPHET
Ludhiana, November 11, 2021: ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana in collaboration with Punjab Chapter of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) organized an interaction meeting with the representatives of Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL), largest manufacture of stainless steel in India on 11, November, 2021. Mr Rajeev Gupta, GM & Head-Business Development, JSL highlighted the various applications of stainless steel in the food processing industries like dairy, rice mill plant and bread processing unit. Stainless steel (SS), an alloy of iron and chromium (>10.5 %) is mainly preferred in food industries due to hygienic condition it offers, safety, corrosion resistance, low maintenance, easiness in fabrication and stronger than carbon steel. He in sighted that there are around 300 grades of SS out of which only 30 grades are commonly used and the grade should be selected according to the type of strength, thickness and finish required for the equipment/material being fabricated. They also showcased their display van to create awareness among students and researches about the application of stainless steel. Dr. Nachiket Kotwaialiwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, thanked the representatives for their enlightening presentation and expressed that ICAR-CIPHET is looking forward for further collaboration with JSL in future endeavor. In fact, there is a huge scope for stainless Steel in Food processing sector. Though most of the processing equipment are made from food grade stainless steel, but still long way to go. Various primary processing equipment like dryers, cleaners, graders, sorting and washing equipment may also be fabricated using suitable grade of stainless steel.
