Ludhiana, July 14, 2023: The Department of Zoology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a Guest Lecture on “Paranomics and Integrated One Health Approach: Current Efforts and Future Directions” today. The lecture organized under the aegis of the Zoological Society was delivered by distinguished scientist, Dr Tilak Chandra Nath, Director, External Affairs, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh.

Dr Nath commenced his intellectual discourse by emphasizing the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health, to an attentive audience comprising faculty members, students, researchers and scholars. He shed light on the importance of adopting an integrated approach to address the complex challenges faced by contemporary society. Dr Nath also provided an overview of the concept of Paranomics, a field that investigates the economic impact of parasites on the overall well-being of societies. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among various disciplines, including veterinary medicine, public health, environmental science, and economics, to effectively combat emerging diseases and to promote sustainable health systems. To strengthen his point, he additionally shared examples of successful interventions and initiatives from around the world, illustrating the positive impact of interdisciplinary collaboration.

The informative discourse was followed by an interactive session, allowing faculty and students to engage in a fruitful discussion with Dr Nath. Many participants raised thought-provoking questions and sought clarification on various aspects of Paranomics and the One Health approach.
