International Chef’s Day held at GNA University

Jalandhar: Pandemic has damaged a lot in the recent times but one thing GNA University will never let it fade away is the spirit of learning. The Faculty of Hospitality @ GNA University along with the students celebrated International Chef’s Day in the virtual mode with a clear motive to offer due reverence to all the chefs working worldwide.

It all started with an event by the name “Chef of GNA” (a cooking competition), where 30 shortlisted students cooked unique & interesting recipes. Keeping the theme in mind “Healthy Food”, students were asked to create unique and healthy recipes. Chef Jitin Joshi, Executive Chef, Gymkhana, London represented India at International level on world class culinary contents presided as the Chief Guest and Judge for the event. 

Chef Jitin Joshi also conducted a session with the students where he emphasized upon “healthy Food” and healthy eating, which was also this year’s theme as mentioned earlier. Chef Joshi talked about various foods, their nutritional aspects and cooking techniques to make the most out of those food items. The students showed their excitement and asked varied questions throughout the session.

A quiz based upon his session was also conducted where more than 100 students participated. Apart from the aforementioned activities, the Faculty of Hospitality decided to celebrate this day with some special people and prepared food under hygienic conditions for the members of Apahaj Ghar Phagwara. 

“Students & Faculty members of GNA University have always played their part when it comes to organizing such events. Although Pandemic did not let us celebrate this special day in person but we are proud of our profession and with the help of technology we can make it happen virtually” said Chef Dhiraj Pathak (Assistant Professor, FOH). He also thanked the Management for the motivation and support rendered during every event.

The Pro-Chancellor, S. Gurdeep Singh Sihra praised the efforts of faculty and dedicated this achievement to all chefs. “Chefs have achieved a lot in past years and nowadays they are not only cooking food but are also acting as the ambassadors of humanity”, he further added.

The Vice-Chancellor Dr. VK Rattan congratulated the faculty members and students for successfully organizing the event and expressed that such kind of events are certainly the right steps for an organization that continuously strives to be among the leading Hotel Management institutes of India.

Dr Monika Hanspal, Dean Academics expressed, “Competitions like this will definitely help the students in learning new dimensions of culinary field and spirit of competition.” She even urged the students and faculty to do better in these events to excel in their life.
