International Dance Contest: Twin Sisters Bring Laurels to Tricity, Win 2 Golds
Talented dancers Tanya and Tanisha, who are 13-year-old twin sisters from tricity, have won two gold medals at the recently held World Dance Festival in South Korea. Tanya and Tanisha were selected to represent North India in the Dance Festival organized by International Dance Organization (IDO), South Korea. The twins have brought laurels not only to tricity but also to the country. More than 20 nations had participated in the championship.
Chandigarh August 20, 2023: Talented dancers Tanya and Tanisha, who are 13-year-old twin sisters from tricity, have won two gold medals at the recently held World Dance Festival in South Korea. Tanya and Tanisha were selected to represent North India in the Dance Festival organized by International Dance Organization (IDO), South Korea. The twins have brought laurels not only to tricity but also to the country. More than 20 nations had participated in the championship.
It is noteworthy that the twin sisters have been training at the Rockstar Academy since they were just 4 years old. The academy has a total of 18 branches in the tricity and surrounding areas.
Tanya and Tanisha, their mentors Rockstar Academy Managing Director and Dance Director, Sameer Mahajan and Sakshi Rauthan who is the co-founder of the academy, Ms. Harpreet Dubey, Kathak Coach of the girls', and their father Vinod Kumar shared details about the twin sisters’ achievement in a press conference held at Press Club here.
Tanya and Tanisha give credit to self-belief and consistent training for their achievement. Talking to reporters Tanya said, “We won two gold medals in the categories of ‘Modern Contemporary’ and ‘Folklore’ and are feeling very proud of the achievement.” Tanisha added, “We worked hard to compete at the international level. The performance in Korea has inspired us to do even better in future competitions.”
Sameer Mahajan, who is also an actor, performer and choreographer revealed that the pair had performed at the Dance World Cup in Bengaluru in April, where they won the first position among several contestants. Not only this, the twins were also winners at the Asia Pacific Dance Congress Dubai held in June. Sameer informed, that the World Dance Festival was an event organized by IDO, Korea. Sameer said that he is the Brand Ambassador of IDO India (North) for Performing Arts and he is the Head of Folk and Couple Dances also. He said that Sakshi Rauthan has also won a gold medal in Seoul in the ‘Folk Lore-Solo category’.
The twins shared that it is natural to be nervous when there are international level artists performing in front of us, but our teachers had always told us to believe in ourselves and our skills, which we did on stage. The twins said that over the years, they had developed confidence by continuously participating in various competitions and reality shows and winning them at various levels.
“Our mentors Sameer Sir, Sakshi Ma’am and Harpreet Ma’am have inspired us to be the best. The constant support and guidance of our parents gave us the motivation to do well in dance,” said Tanya.
Regarding their daily routine, Tanisha said, “On a daily basis, we have dance classes and study time, along with that we keep some free time for our personal activities in which we watch dance videos, play games and spend quality time with family.”
The twin sisters informed that their next aim is to learn and explore different dance styles. Also, they want to enhance their skills and participate in upcoming events at both the national and international level.
