70 students, staff of Govt PG College attend webinar on drug addiction

International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking

Panchkula: As many as 70 students of Govt PG College, Sector 1 Panchkula attended an online webinar on “Drugs & Youth the biggest challenge in today’s time” on Saturday.

The webinar was organized by the college in collaboration with Faith Hospital, Chandigarh to mark International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.  

Addressing the students during the webinar, Dr. Damanjit Kaur, senior psychiatrist at Faith  said that drug addiction is eating up our generation & youth. The drug addiction can lead to poor academic performance, criminal activities, suicidal tendencies, imprisonment and lastly death, she asserted.

Talking about the factors that can push youth to drug addiction she said that lack of parental supervision and support is the prime reason behind the problem. The other factors includes; low grades or failure on the education front , living in a community or company with high tolerance for smoking, drinking  or drug use, poor economic status and mental health issues.

Speaking about protective factors, she said that these factors could decrease the risk of drug addiction. These factors are; strong bond with a parent or caregiver, high self-esteem, spending time around positive role models, living in a community that offers youths activities where drugs and alcohol are not tolerated

Among others, Dr. Archana Mishra, college principal , Vandita Gupta the convener, Vandita Sharma co-convener, Dr. Renuka Dhyani and Nisha Pannu also participated in the webinar.
