International Expert Discusses Mass Spectrometry's Role in Rapid Clinical Diagnostics during an international talk at KMV

Jalandhar, April 15, 2025: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organized an International talk on “Mass spectroscopy Based Microbes Identification Directly from Clinical Samples”.

The speaker of the talk was Dr. Manoj Kushwaha, Post Doctoral Fellow Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA.  Dr. Manoj defined mass spectrometry and its relevance in microbiology, especially in clinical settings. He discussed the importance of rapid identification of pathogens in clinical diagnostics, including implications for treatment and controlling outbreaks. He described how mass spectrometry works and outlined the steps involved in using mass spectrometry to identify microbes in clinical samples (sample preparation, ionization, data acquisition, and analysis). He discussed the benefits of using mass spectrometry, such as speed, accuracy, and the ability to identify a wide range of microorganisms directly from clinical samples without the need for extensive culturing.

Dr. Kushwaha also addressed limitations or challenges mentioned in the lecture, such as the need for standardization, database limitations, or issues with complex samples.

Principal Prof.  (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the faculty of the PG Department of Zoology for successfully organising the event.
