Jalandhar: The Department of Design of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organized International Webinar on Rethinking Design Globally in order to think of Design on collaborative terms at National as well as International levels.
The Webinar was joined and enhanced by the 7 nationally and internationally recognized panelists. The experts who added a cherry on the cake and added insightful vision to Design were René Pijnenburg (Designer Interior Architecture/ Sr. Lecturer, St.Joost Academy,Breda, Netherlands), Gé Smit (Sr. Art Director/Creative Thinker/ Sr. Lecturer, St.Joost Academy,Breda, Netherlands),Ar. Sangeet Sharma (Partner Architect, SD Sharma &Associates, Chandigarh) , Ar. Surinder Bahga (Principal Architect, Saakaar Foundation, Chandigarh),Renate Boere (Principal Designer, Studio Renate Boere/ Sr. Lecturer, Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam, Netherlands),Budi Loonen (Senior Art Director, NO TOMATO Advertising firm,Breda, Netherlands/ Sr. Lecturer, Zua Art School, Zhengzhou China ),Paula Rennings (Art Director and Researcher, P&P Regissuers, Breda)
Principal Dr Sucharita Sharma welcomed them and expressed her pleasure to have them. She said amidst this time of COVID-19, there is no sector which has not been touched by its impact. In order to track the change in the contemporary times amidst the latest requirements and necessity, it is important to interact about it. And when this interaction could be done with the experts in field who with their experience and observation around can perceive this change; it provides vision to students.
Ms Rajni Kumar, who was also the moderator of this Webinar, asked René Pijnenburg how the upcoming designers can unwrap themselves and polish their skills. To which she answered that just keep exploring yourself and don’t get too serious in this time of crisis. Now is the time when they can look inside themselves and can seek the passion and vision from inside and not outside. The young blossoming designers should keep doing something new and without even realizing this will help them to find their vision. Gé Smit also supported this idea and added in this time being designers we need to come up with new thoughts and ideas which can justify the needs of society in the current scenario.
Mr. Sangeet Sharma put forth that now the designers are paying attention and prioritizing what is essential.
On being asked by Dr Sucharita what role can designers play in order to reduce the impact of COVID- 19, Surinder Bahga answered that very soon anti bacterial material will be out in the market and using that they will create products for their clients which will benefit them.
Renate Boere talking of the material to be used for products especially masks etc put forth that light weighted material should be used. Budi Loonen talking of the increasing impact of technology added that it definitely cannot be reduced but at the same time designers need to pay attention to the latest demands in the market. Talking about the advertisement industry, Paula Rennings said that some companies are almost on the verge of getting closed but in these times, the connections can work and the necessary things could be done.
Dr Ashok Dogra added that this webinar is definitely beneficial for the students of Design and it will provide them the vision of what is happening around globally in the domain of Design and how designers can contribute amidst this time of crisis.
