International Women Day celebrated as Shakti Parv at Doaba College
Jalandhar, March 6, 2024: Doaba College Jalandhar organized International Women's Day as Shakti Parv. Puneet Sehgal, Director Doordarshan Jalandhar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya and Parveen Abrol, President NGO Drishti & Eminent Social Worker, were the Guests of Honour. The Dignitaries were accorded a hearty welcome by Principal Dr Pardeep Bhandari, Prof Ira Sharma , Prof Garima Choda, Prof Sonia Kalra, Dr Ominder Johal, Staff and students.
Invoking the blessings of the Almighty the event began with the lighting of the lamp followed by recital of Doaba Gaan. Offering a floral welcome to the dignitaries, Principal, Dr. Pradeep Bhandari, accented the importance of the day by saying that this day celebrates the dignity and indomitable spirit of women. The Chief Guest Punit Sehgal expressed his views on Women Empowerment. He further added the need of the hour is that men should respect women.
Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi inspired the students to be creators of their destiny and emphasized the need for being free from the psycho-social pressure. Parveen Abrol shared her experiences to raise awareness about dignity women among the youth and urged the women to be strong and believe in themselves in order to be empowered. Various colourful and vibrant stage performances in the form of poetical recital by Yuvraj Singh and Ishita , songs by Tejas and Aarti and fabulous Choreography by Journalism students captured the hearts of audience. The event culminated with the vote of thanks by Prof. Ira Sharma. Dr. Priya Chopra conducted the stage.
