Issue Related To Increased Fee By Private Schools Resolved After Intervention Of District Administration

Ludhiana, April 6, 2016: In a big relief to the parents and students of the district, the district administration has intervened and solved the issue related to hike in fee by some private schools. The representatives of private schools have assured the district administration that they would adhere to the directions given to them by the district administration over this issue.
Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat informed that it has been decided that there would be not more than 5 percent increase in tuition fee this year, the increase of development charges by private schools have been reduced by 30% from the last academic year and that the needy students would be provided text books at 25 percent discount.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that for keeping a check on the fees and other funds/donations demanded by some of the private schools, the Punjab government is already in the process of forming a regulatory committee. He said that although the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court has already formed one such committee under the leadership of a retired judge, but as a large number of matters related to overcharging by private schools came to the notice of Punjab government, so this decision of forming a regulatory committee was taken. He said that once this committee takes formal shape, the residents and parents would be able to complain about overcharging by private schools with this regulatory committee.
During the meeting, the parents also thanked SOI Malwa Zone President and Director, Youth Development Board, Punjab, for arranging this formal meeting with the Deputy Commissioner.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting included ADC Mr Ajay Sood, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, Representative of Private schools association Mr Rajesh Rudra, besides several others.
