IT HAPPENS TOO: Green Diwali turned Balloon Diwali

Ludhiana, November 14: Sukrit Trust celebrated Diwali in a green way and it ultimately turned into a balloon Diwali.  It arranged gathering of children at its office and gave them balloons to inflate and then burst. It made such a huge noise followed by a hearty laughter that too without any pollution or fire risk and within audible limits. Rupture balloons, they give the same thrill as crackers, said Dr Mandeep Kaur, State Coordinator, Sukrit Trust.

The NGO also motivated its members to lighten their homes only for few hours and not let the lights on for whole of night or days and weeks together. This way we celebrated Diwali also and saved electricity and energy. Also instead of sweets we exchanged fresh fruits as gifts on this occasion, she added.

Jasleen Kaur, a class 8 student of DAV Public School, said that they were visiting their locality in the past one week and exhorting the children to stay away from crackers. When some people asked them if no crackers then how to celebrate Diwali. It was then they came up with this idea  of bursting balloons which gave them such hilarious moments.

It is noteworthy that the organisation was spearheading a green Diwali campaign since last one month in various schools, colleges and universities. In Punjab Agricultural University, 500 students pledged and signed for cracker free Diwali.
