Mohali, April 30, 2022: In new feet in the keyhole cancer surgery, a 70 year old female has been treated successfully with keyhole cancer surgery at Ivy Hospital, Mohali recently.
Giving information during a press conference at Ivy Hospital on Saturday, Vijay Bansal, Head- Onco Surgery at Ivy Hospital said that the patient was suffering from cancer of Vulva for the last three months and she was diabetic and hypertensive too.
The patient was treated with keyhole cancer surgery. In keyhole surgery we make a few small cuts in the abdomen. They pass a long tube with a light and camera through one of the holes. Surgical instruments are put into the other holes and are used to remove the cancer. Generally, with keyhole surgery, people recover quicker, asserted Dr Vijay.
Vulvar cancer is a type of cancer that occurs on the outer surface area of the female genitalia. The vulva is the area of skin that surrounds the urethra and vagina, including the clitoris and labia. Vulvar cancer commonly forms as a lump or sore on the vulva that often causes itching, informed Dr Vijay.
Talking about keyhole surgery, Dr Jatin Sarin, Director & Head- Deptt of Oncology Ivy Hospital Mohali said that we are doing advanced laparoscopic or keyhole surgeries with results matching international standards. We have started doing groin lymph node removal by keyhole approach with good results and without any complications.
In fact we are the first in this region doing these complicated cases by laparoscopic approach with full patient satisfaction. This surgery help patient to recover fast with minimal scar on body, informed Dr. Bansal who have also worked at GCRI & Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai
Dr. Hemkant Verma, senior consultant onco-surgery said that cancer cases are on rise in India & worldwide. Cancer in genital tract is relatively uncommon. These cancers need an expert approach in management.
Dr. Meenakshi Mittal, senior radiation oncologist, said that surgeries generally can have two approaches like open surgery & key hole surgery / laparoscopic surgery. In cancer of genital parts of male / females need groin lymph nodes removal. This is done generally by giving a cut in groin fold which carries a high complication rate. Wound related complications are seen in 40-50% of cases.
