Jail inmates allowed to perform last rites of father who died in jail due to cardiac arrest
Two jail inmates, who were booked in a murder case last year, were allowed to perform the last rites of their father under police escort at the expense of the State.
Ferozepur, June 11, 202: Two jail inmates, who were booked in a murder case last year, were allowed to perform the last rites of their father under police escort at the expense of the State. It is pertinent to mention here that their father was also lodged in the central jail and had died due to cardiac arrest on June 9.
As per information, the jail inmate Gurdev Singh son of Santa Singh, a resident of Village Chakk Panje Ke in Guruharsahai sub-division had passed away due to heart attack on Thursday. Gurdev was booked in a murder case under sections 302, 307, 323, 341, 148 and 149 IPC (FIR No. 44 Dated 14.04.2021) at Guruharsahai police station along with his two sons Sukhminder Singh and Balwinder Singh.
While divulging more details Ekta Uppal, Chief Judicial Magistrate said that both Sukhminder and Balwinder had no money to pay the escort charges. “They had no money to pay the police escort charges to perform the last rites of their father. They had submitted an application in my court following which they were allowed to perform the last rites of their father and were provided the police escort without any charges.
Advocate Gagan Goklani said that following the instructions of the CJM, an application was submitted in the court of officiating session judge. “The officiating sessions judge asked for the file from the concerned court and instructed the jail superintendent to allow Sukhminder and Balwinder to perform the last rites of their father”, he said.
