JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) felicitates the Champions of Khelo India University Games 2021
Winners were awarded with cash prizes as a token of appreciation by the university
Bengaluru, May 13, 2022: The Department of Sports of the JAIN (Deemed-to-be- University) held a felicitation ceremony to honour the KIUG 2021 winners at Seshadri Road, CMS Business School in Bengaluru. Padmashree Dr. C.G. Krishnadas Nair, Principal Advisor, JAIN (Deemed–to–be–University) was the guest of honour at the event. Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Founder of JAIN Group and Chancellor of JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University; Dr. Shankar UV, Director of Sports, JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) and officials of the sports department of JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) along with the winning team of KIUG 2021 and their parents were present at the event.
JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) emerged as the winner in the recently concluded second edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2021 by winning 32 medals, including 20 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze. As a reward for their remarkable performance, JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) announced a cash prize of Rs. 2,75,000 to Siva Sridhar, Rs. 1,97,000 to Shrungi Bandekar, Rs. 1,55,000 to Srihari Natraj and Rs. 1,50,000 to Priya Mohan. The other winners were also rewarded with cash prizes.
The contingent from JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) brought accolades to the University by showcasing outstanding performance. Siva Sridhar emerged as the star swimmer by winning seven gold medals for the team. In addition, he set a new national record in the men's 200m individual medley. Olympian Srihari Natraj won 3 gold medals in various swimming events, while Shrungi Bandekar won 4 gold medals.
Priya Mohan of the host university won two gold medals in the women's 200m race finale and in the women's 400m race. JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University)’s seven-men karate team performed well with Syed Baba winning the gold at the singles event. Both the men and women Badminton teams of JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) won gold and the hearts of the spectators with their determined performances. Fencing, Women’s Pole Vault, and weightlifting teams registered extraordinary performances and fetched medals for the University.
Dr. Chenraj Roychand, founder of JAIN Group and Chancellor of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) said, “We are proud of our students for their outstanding performance. This win has also reiterated our commitment towards inculcating sports culture in our students and creating a sports environment”.
“We have always strived to inculcate the sports culture in our students since our inception. As a result of which we are celebrating this proud moment today. In the coming times, we are planning to bring international level coaches for our swimming and badminton players and we will also organize meditation sessions that will help them increase their concentration levels, maintain self-discipline, and stay motivated. The faculty at JAIN will always be there to support and guide sports stars”, Dr. Roychand further added.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Shankar UV, Director of Sports, JAIN (Deemed-to-be- University) said, “The result of our 30 years of efforts was visible in the recently concluded second edition of KIUG. Our sports contingent has firmly established us on the national and global maps with their tremendous sportsmanship. For this achievement, I would like to thank their parents, teachers, coaches and above all the Hon'ble Chancellor of JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) for the guidance, tireless efforts, cooperation, and support. I believe that with great success comes great responsibility. We reiterate our commitment to keeping the spirit of trust intact among the students and their parents for our JAIN Group.
Siva Sridhar who won the maximum medals for the university said, “We are very happy and proud to become the champions and thankful to JAIN (Deemed-to-be-University) for providing us the best guidance and support to excel in our sports. We are proud to be a part of the university which inculcates sports culture in its curriculum along with academic excellence”.
