JALANDHAR’S NEW BORN DEATH CASE: ORDERS FOR TRANSFER OF CIVIL HOSPITAL MS

3 Staff Nurses and 1 Emergency Medical Officer to be charge sheeted

12 Special New Born care units to be established 

Chandigarh, August 17: The enquiry into the unfortunate incident of the death of a new born at Civil Hospital, Jalandhar on August 25 this year had been entrusted to a Committee chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.

After going through the inquiry report submitted by the ADC Jalandhar and Director Health and Family Welfare, Punjab through Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Punjab as well as the views of the Chief Parliamentary Secretary, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal has ordered the transfer of Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Jalandhar. 

The 3 Staff Nurses and 1 Emergency Medical Officer will be charge sheeted for negligence in performing their duties. 

In order to prevent recurrence of such unfortunate event and to improve the child care in the state, 12 special new-born care units will be established during the year 2012-13.  Two of these special new born care units (one at Mother and Child Care Hospital, Bathinda and the other at Mata Kaushalya Hospital, Patiala) are being set up shortly to provide the specialised new born care in every aspect. 

Fifty new born stabilisation units will also be set up in all the District Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Community Health Centres to provide specialized care to the new born.  The user charges for the services to be provided to the new born and the mothers has already been waived off, going by the commitment of free services to the new born and the pregnant women under JSSK scheme.  The Government will leave no stone unturned to implement this scheme properly.
