Sheetal Angural was in BJP in the past and after resigning from BJP he joined the AAP and with the joining he was allocated assembly ticket by the AAP to contest the assembly poll in 2022 and won during the Punjab assembly elections on the AAP ticket by a margin of more than 5,000 votes defeating the Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku. He won by defeating Sushil Kumar Rinku of Congress and Mohinder Bhagat of BJP. After few months Sushil Kumar Rinku resigned from the Congress and joined the AAP and was allocated party ticket to contest as the party candidate in the Jalandhar parliamentary by-election which he won by more than 55,000 votes defeating the Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary wife of Late Santokh Singh Chaudhary. Even though he was announced as the AAP candidate to contest parliament election in 2024 he resigned from the AAP and joined BJP along with Sheetal Angural who had forwarded his resignation from Punjab assembly to the competent authorities. In the parliament elections this year, Sushil Kumar Rinku lost as BJP candidate by more than 1.75 lakh votes to the Congress candidate Charanjit Singh Channi. With the acceptance of resignation of Sheetal Angural from assembly, by- election was announced and the voting is to be held on July 10. This time Sheetal Angural is contesting on the BJP ticket whereas Mohinder Bhagat is contesting on the AAP’s ticket. Surinder Kaur is contesting as the Congress candidate. With the emerging present situation, this seat has become very prestigious. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his family members, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs are campaigning in the Jalandhar West Constituency to retain this seat. BJP is also hopefully of better performance. The Congress leaders are also carrying out campaign to ensure the victory. Also, BSP is in the fray. All the political parties are hoping for the victory. But electorates will decide the fate of the contesting candidates.
