Jalandhar, September 11, 2013: A deputation of Guest House Association (Punjab) met BJP national executive member Manoranjan Kalia, MLA, here on Wednesday and urged upon him to take up their demands with the state government.

The deputation said the state government was in a move to introduce luxury tax on private guest houses in Punjab, which would badly affect their business.

Members of the deputation said their business was already in crisis and it would be affected badly further if luxury tax was introduced. They feared that the state government was about to introduce 8 per cent luxury tax on private guest houses, which were exactly places of “shelter” for common man staying outside his hometown for one of another purpose.

They strongly demanded that the state government should exempt private guest houses from luxury tax, as it would ruin their business.

They pointed out that there was no facility to cook food or providing restaurant facilities to those staying in guest houses. Even most of the houses were without the facility of ACs and other such facilities. Then how these rest houses could come under ambit of luxury tax, they pointed out.

Kalia listened to them sympathetically and assured to take up their demands with the chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

The deputation was comprised among others of Amar Ahuja, Ravinder Singh, Randeep, Jagjit Singh, Arvinder Singh, Ashish, Rajesh, Iqbal Singh, Deepak, Ashwani and Darmesh Vinake.
