JFA mourns demise of Dutta, Koiri, Bhuyan
Guwahati: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed profound grief over the demise of northeast India’s well known cartoonist and illustrator Trailokya Dutta who breathed his last on Wednesday (11 November 2020) night after suffering from old-age ailments from sometime.
Dutta (90) is recognized as one of the pioneer political cartoonists of the region and he used to work for many newspapers as a
professional cartoonist. Hailed from Ratanpur village of Bajali area. Dutta was honoured with a number of awards in memories of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha, Sonit Konwar Gajen Baruah, Amulya Kakati, etc. He was also awarded with the artiste’s pension from Assam government.
The forum also mourned the demise of Barak based senior journalist, author and social worker Sanat Kumar Koiri on Wednesday morning. Koiri (65) was suffering from life threatening diseases for nearly three
years. He used to work for Silchar based newspapers and also led the press club there, said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.
Meanwhile, the JFA expressed concern over a mysterious road accident that finally killed a television journalist based in Kakopathar of eastern Assam. Parag Bhuyan (55), who was associated with PratidinTime news channel was undergoing treatment in Dibrugarh after the accident, where he finally succumbed to injuries this morning.
State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while sending condolence message to Bhuyan’s bereaved family members & well-wishers, Sonowal ordered a probe into the incident. The Tinsukia police have already seized the vehicle which hit the journalist and ran away. Its driver along with handyman were also picked up by the police from Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh.
