JUDGMENT: 2 years RI to then GM of Brahmaputra Board, Guwahati

Jalandhar, December,12, 2012:  The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Guwahati (Assam) has convicted Dr. Amarjyoti Baruah, the then General Manager, Brahmaputra Board, Guwahati and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 25,000.   
A case was registered on 22.02.2010 U/s. 7 of PC Act., 1988 against Dr. Amarjyoti Baruah, General Manager (I & W), Brahmaputra Board, Guwahati for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.One Lakh from the complainant.
The accused had demanded the bribe for having sanctioned the work of “Construction of RCC Porcupine Screen as Apron of Tie Bund Across the Spill Channel of Dibang (Group-2)” pending execution of tender agreement and issuance of formal work order and for awarding works in future to a private firm. He was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from the complainant.
On completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed on 21.09.2010 before the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Guwahati(Assam).
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
