Jalandhar, December 19, 2012: The SpecialJudge for CBI cases, Visakhaptnam has convicted Sri Vempati Mohana Murali Venkata Nagendra Rao, then Special Cadre Assistant, Indian Overseas Bank, Seetharampuram Branch, Eluru Road, Vijayawada and Assistant General Secretary, All Indian Overseas Bank’s Employees Union, Vijayawada Region, in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo three years Simple Imprisonment with total fine of Rs. 20,000. 

The complainant alleged that he was promoted from Messenger to Clerk-cum-Cashier and transferred to Kurnavelli Branch, Palnad Mandal, Khammam District in the year 2003. He met Sri V.M.M.V.Nagendra Rao, Special Cadre Assistant, IOB, Sitarampuram Branch, Vijayawada, who was also an Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of All Indian Overseas Bank Employees’ Union, Vijayawada Region and requested him for transfer to Kothagudem Branch on personal grounds. Sri V.M.M.V.Nagendra Rao told him that he would get his transfer by using his influence as Union’s Assistant General Secretary (AGS) and demanded a bribe of Rs.15,000. The complainant expressed his inability to pay the bribe. Accordingly, the complainant got transferred to Kothagudem Branch in the 2nd week of December, 2007 and joined in Kothagudem Branch in the same month. The accused again demanded the bribe amount and warned the complainant that he would get him transferred to a remote place if the complainant did not pay the bribe of Rs.15,000. The complainant was not willing to pay the bribe and  lodged a complaint with CBI, Visakhapatnam.

A case was registered on 11-02-2008 U/s.9 of PC Act, 1988 against Sri V.M.M.V.Nagendra Rao, Assistant General Secretary, All Indian Overseas Bank Employees Union. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 from the complainant. 

On completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed against Sri Vempati Mohana Murali Venkata Nagendra Rao, then Special Cadre Assistant, Indian Overseas Bank, before the Court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam U/s.9 & 13(2) r/w. 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.  The Court framed charges U/s.9 & 13(2) r/w. 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against the accused.
