JUDGMENT: Then Additional Commissioner of IT sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment

Jalandhar, March 26, 2013: The Special Judge for CBI cases, Mumbai has sentenced R.K. Gupta, the then Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.10,000 U/s 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act 1988.

The case was registered by CBI on December 15, 2008 on the allegations that R.K. Gupta, the then Additional Commissioner of Income Tax demanded and accepted bribe of Rs. 4 lakh from Complainant (A Tax Consultant) for settlement of Income Tax assessment of his client.

On the completion of investigation, charge sheet U/s 7 & 13(2) r/w IPC 13 (1) (d) of PC Act was filed in the Designated Court at Mumbai.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
