Kali Bein restored to its pristine glory
Cleaning up the 165-kilometre-long Kali Bein rivulet by Sant Balbir Singh Seechawal has begun to bear fruit.
Sulltanpur Lodhi, November 6, 2022: Cleaning up the 165-kilometre-long Kali Bein rivulet by Sant Balbir Singh Seechawal has begun to bear fruit. Lakhs of devotees visiting Sultanpur Lodhi during the 553rd Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak have benefitted from the rejuvenation of the project, once known as the black (Kali) rivulet. Finally, it meets the confluence of the rivers Beas and Sutlej in Kapurthala.
Eminent Author and Nature Artist Harpreet Sandhu today took a glass of water from Kali Bein and observed that it was as clean as it is in our homes. Harpreet Sandhu applauded Environmentalist Padma Shri Sant Seechewal, Member Parliament, Rajya Sabha, for his sincere dedication to upkeep the pristine purity of Holy Kali Bein in Sultanpur Lodhi.
Sant Seechewal is known for his efforts to clean the 165-km-long rivulet Kali Bein in Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala District). It originates from Hoshiarpur and passes around 80 villages and half a dozen small and large towns.
It may be mentioned here that in July this year, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had also drunk a glass of water taken out of Kali Bein, and this act of Mann was widely highlighted in the media.
In the past, wastewater from there and industrial waste used to flow into the rivulet via a drain, turning its waters black, hence the name. Dense grass and weeds grew on the water until the rivulet was cleaned.
The rivulet is of great importance to the Sikhs as Guru Nanak, during his stay at Sultanpur Lodhi, used to bathe in Kali Bein, recited Mool Mantra and meditated for 14 years here, after which he got enlightenment. There are stories that he disappeared into the waters one day before emerging on the third day.
Lakhs of devotees visiting the Kali Bein at Sultanpur Lodhi are bathing and drink water from the rivulet daily.
