Dharamshala, April 15, 2024: In a notable pre-election event, Bollywood actress and BJP's Lok Sabha candidate for the Mandi seat, Kangana Ranaut, engaged in a significant meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, at his residence in McLeodganj, Dharamsala, on Monday morning.
Former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and senior BJP leader, Jai Ram Thakur, also accompanied her during this visit.
Reflecting on her encounter, Kangana shared her profound admiration for the Dalai Lama, remarking, "It was a wonderful experience to see the Dalai Lama. It is an experience which I will cherish throughout my life."
The meeting holds particular resonance as Kangana had recently issued an apology for a controversial "Joe Biden-Dalai Lama" joke. When pressed by media in Dharamsala about the incident, she chose to remain silent.
Continuing her electoral campaign, Kangana visited the Bharmour area of the Chamba district later that day, which is part of her constituency in Mandi. The campaign trail is heating up as the Mandi seat prepares for a tightly contested battle. Kangana Ranaut is up against Vikramaditya Singh, a minister in Sukhvinder Singh's government. Singh is also the son of the late Virbhadra Singh, a six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, and his wife, Pratibha Singh, the incumbent Congress MP from Mandi. With polling day scheduled for June 1, both candidates are ramping up their efforts in this key electoral region.
