Kangra District Commemorates Rajiv Gandhi's Birth Anniversary with Sadbhavana Day Oath
In a solemn ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Dharamshala, Kangra District Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa administered the Sadbhavana Day oath to officers and employees on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi. The event, which took place on Tuesday, also saw floral tributes being offered in honor of the late leader.
Dharamshala, August 20, 2024: In a solemn ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Dharamshala, Kangra District Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa administered the Sadbhavana Day oath to officers and employees on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi. The event, which took place on Tuesday, also saw floral tributes being offered in honor of the late leader.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa highlighted Rajiv Gandhi's pivotal role in shaping modern India. He noted that the nation remembers Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who implemented significant reforms that transformed societal thinking and governance.
One of Rajiv Gandhi's landmark decisions, as emphasized by the Deputy Commissioner, was the reduction of the voting age from 21 to 18 years, a move that empowered the youth to actively participate in the democratic process. Additionally, Rajiv Gandhi was a strong advocate for women's rights, championing the introduction of 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
The ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Jassal, Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner Subhash Gautam, along with various other officers and employees, who paid their respects and reaffirmed their commitment to the values of harmony and national unity that Rajiv Gandhi stood for.
