Keeping farmers at forefront KVK Ludhiana gives clarion call for greeener means of residue management

Ludhiana, October 14, 2022: ‘Community Centric Campaign’ for paddy residue management launched by KVK Ludhiana (Samrala) under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, is yielding desired results with swarms of progressive farmers joining the cause every passing day.
Dr GS Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg), KVK Ludhiana said “innovation is the essence of effective transfer of technology and thus KVK is adopting a unique way of reaching farmers through the farmers to spread awareness on crop residue management”. “Keeping them at forefront as the torchbearers, KVK has managed to yield desired results manifolds”, he added. Interacting, convincing, engaging, felicitating and continuous handholding of farmers are few important aspects we are focussing on. He informed that, today on the concluding day of 5-day training under CRM, a special interactive session was arranged where progressive farmers who have been successfully managing crop residue for last several years shared their expertise with the trainees and cleared their doubts. This year KVK has taken yet another unique initiative by organizing CRM-machinery flag-off ceremony to various adopted villages by the progressive CRM farmers, he added.
Er Karun Sharma informed that the five-day training was organized for the farmers of village Bharthala and Pal-Majra. During this programme, detailed information was shared on the working of CRM machinery like super-seeder, happy-seeder, rotavator, mulcher along with hands-on-training sessions. He also stressed that farmers must ensure use of super-SMS enabled combines for harvesting the paddy crop.
Dr Harshneet Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Soil Science) discussed about judicious use of fertilizers and appealed farmers to go for soil testing. He also discussed about recommended agronomic practices for sowing of wheat crop.
Dr Jagdeep Kaur, Asstt. Prof. (Plant Prot.) shared vital information on IPM and safe use of pesticides.
The programme concluded with distribution of relevant PAU literature, and flag-ff ceremony of CRM machinery by the progressive farmers including, S. Sukhjit Singh (Diwala), S. Swarnjit Singh (Ghulal), S. Bir Singh (Chak Muafi), S. Gurjit Singh (Bharthala) and S. Jatinder Singh (Pal Majra) in the presence of KVK team, and other farmers.
